My attention was sparked by the prospect of an anime focused on food. It’s worth bingeing on; the highlight is showcasing one delectable dish after another. The animation does an excellent job of capturing the spirit of well-prepared food, from appearance to scent to interior fullness. The premise is straightforward; it follows a young boy’s aspiration of becoming a top chef through his growth and struggles in a culinary school against other students with similar ambitions; while unoriginal, it works. The characters vary in color and attitude, yet they are all likable in the end; there is no evil character in this story. There is one flaw with the anime, and although it may be a highlight for some or a turn-off for others, the extra dosage of ecchi and fan service does overboard in portraying characters’ responses after they consume the food. However, this is an anime and is to be anticipated. Finally, it was a delightful anime for me; I ended up watching both the dubbed seasons 1 & 2 and thoroughly loved them. After a three-year hiatus, I returned to season 3 and found it to be less enjoyable; I thought the anime was dragging now.
